New CD Recommendations:
Mighty Blue Kings: Meet Me Uptown
I'd highly recommend this CD--excellent jump blues, 90% of this album is danceable (tempo-wise).

Casey MacGill & The Spirits of Rhythm: Jump
Casey MacGill And The Spirits Of Rhythm: Jump

This hot-off-the-press CD is excellent!! This band has an excellent collection of classic swing & jump blues. There's some excellent Slim Gaillard influence in this band--if you like Slim's work, you'll love this band. The only way (I know of) to get this CD currently: direct from the band. To order, call toll free, 1-888-531-1025 (and mention you found it on swingout.net -- thanks! :-)

Recommended CDs
Indigo Swing

Their original CD. Buy it. (Need I say more?)

Indigo Swing: All Aboard!

Their NEW CD. Buy it. It swings (of course)! This one is owned by anyone "that knows"....

Bill Elliott Swing Orchestra: Calling All Jitterbugs

My favorite of the two Bill Elliott CDs (don't get me wrong--they're both excellent). Includes the live version of Bill's Bounce. I spin 10 of the 14 songs on this CD when it comes to dancing.

Bill Elliott Swing Orchestra: Swing Fever

The other Bill Elliott CD--also excellent. I consider 8 of the 14 songs to be excellent for Lindy. Definitely one of my fav CDs.

Steve Lucky & The Rhumba Bums: Come Out Swingin'!

Excellent CD. I personally like every song on this CD (which is extremely rare). Most of the 13 tracks are danceable.

Risque Rhythm

18 tracks that would make your grandmother wonder. Includes "Big 10 Inch Record", "It Ain't The Meat" and "My Man Stands Out". Full track listing at Amazon.com (click the cover).

Recommended Books
Swing! The New Retro Renaissance

This book has a little of everything: interviews with Pioneers (Frankie Manning & the invention of the first lindy hop aerial), Bands (8.5 Souvenirs to Vise Grip, and a number in between) Dancers (including performance troupes, like The Flyin' Lindy Hoppers) and Clubs (including the famed HiBall Lounge) and more.

Swingin' at the Savoy : The Memoir of a Jazz Dancer by Norma Miller

Norma Miller was one of Whitey's Lindy Hoppers, the famed group that Frankie Manning performed in and helped choregraph pieces for. I bought this book on Frankie's recommendation, and haven't had time to read all of it. However, I've heard nothing but excellent things about it. Frankie says that this is one of the best books out there if you want to find out what it was really like back around the Savoy.

Jazz Dance : The Story of American Vernacular Dance by Marshall Winslow Stearns

I can't say I've read this whole book, but there are 3 or 4 really excellent chapters on Lindy Hop, it's evolution & the area around the Savoy. (I borrowed it from Guy Wallman -- if you're lucky he may loan you his copy. ;-)

more (always) coming...check back often. :-)
